Herman Busschots has worked continuously in the power generation industry for over 30 years since graduating, starting under employment by Belgian transformer manufacturer Pauwels Trafo BV with responsibility for their production unit in Ireland from 1984.
In 1993 Mr. Busschots moved to wind energy and joined US wind developer Zond in 1995 as their project developer in Ireland and later the UK. When Zond was bought by Enron, he became their commercial director for UK and Ireland, responsible for wind turbine sales and project development.
In 2002 Mr. Busschots joined General Electric as European pole leader for the Project Development unit of GE Energy’s power generation unit. In this role Mr. Busschots was responsible for all business deals in Europe involving project development with focus on power generation projects including renewable energy and thermal projects. His responsibility included origination, project acquisition, technical due diligence, project development, financing, sell-down and strategic initiatives. In this role, Mr. Busschots took the lead on working with regulators and utilities in respect of facilitating the deployment of intermittent renewable energy projects such as wind projects in emerging markets, the regulatory implications, review of technical solutions and financial/economic considerations. He was also involved in a number of IPP projects in emerging markets and worked with the authorities to facilitate their implementation.
In 2008 Mr. Busschots and co-formed Galetech Energy Developments Ltd with his business partner Darren Sherry, leading wind project development activities in partnership with Belgian wind developer Storm Management BV, GE Energy Inc and various utilities.
Since 2008 provided consultancy services in Ireland, UK, continental Europe and Africa through Galetech Group and its subsidiaries Galetech Measurement Services Ltd, Galetech Sustainable Living Ltd, Galetech Energy Services Ltd and EnergyPro Ltd.
Mr. Busschots is a founding shareholder of Optinergy Ltd a service company involved in operations, maintenance and management of wind farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland.
He has also carried out contract work through his company Windy and Warm Ltd for USAID throughout Africa under the AIP program examining regulatory barriers to wind development, feasibility of projects, impact of projects on weak grids and project feasibility studies.
In 2022 Mr. Busschots took the role of managing directior in Manannan Wind Energy Ltd, a JV between Galetech Energy Developments Ltd and Storm Management BV.
